Vipers Baseball and Softball

Franklin Park Vipers Baseball and Softball

Registration for the Vipers’ 2012 season starts in January. Registration is open to Boys and Girls, 5-18 years old and players must be present at registration for uniform sizing. For new Players, please bring copy of their birth certificate.Once registered, players are invited to free clinics to learn fundamentals and prepare for the upcoming season. By mid-February, teams are drafted and assigned a practice time slot in our indoor training facility. Vipers games start the week of April 16 for players ages 7 and up, and the week of April 30 for T-ballers ages 5–6. Thunder Soccer

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Thunder Soccer is seeking volunteers to help conduct the administration of this youth soccer program. Thunder Soccer is a Not-For-Profit youth soccer program, established in 1983. The current Board Members are committed to recruiting new volunteers to continue the success of this positive youth program that has provided a recreational and competitive youth soccer program for over 8000 kids in the Leyden area continuously, for the past 28 years.  Thunder Soccer is a member of the Illinois Youth Soccer Association (IYSA).  In 2009, Thunder Soccer was named the “Youth Soccer Club of the Year” for the State of Illinois by IYSA. 

We are seeking the talents of parents and program participants to assume Board Positions and responsibilities.  Help us continue to provide a youth soccer program that annually serves over 700+ kids in our community.  

The Thunder Board is hoping to fill the vacancies of the following positions with a brief explanation of the position duties:

  • Vice President – Responsible for managing the program’s database and conducting the seasonal search and negotiations for a photographer. Oversee and manage “Photo Day” sessions during each season.  Coordinate delivery of photos to our program participants.
  • Secretary – Coordinates with local schools to assure promotional information/fliers are distributed to the schools. Coordinates with local schools and Park Districts to assure that field/facility permits are obtained for practices, games and meetings.
  • Head Coach – Responsible for recruiting all volunteer seasonal coaches; for maintaining communication throughout the season/year with the coaches and coordinating a pre-season Coaching Clinic for our volunteer coaches, with the local High School.
  • Equipment Manager – Responsible for transporting all goals and field equipment (flags, canopies, etc.) to the fields each Sunday morning for games and returning to the fields in the afternoon to return the same equipment to the Storage facility after the games are completed. Required to maintain the storage facility in an organized, orderly and clean appearance throughout the season.  Maintains a current inventory of field and program equipment. Coordinate during the pre-season with other Board members to prepare the equipment for distribution to the coaches. This position requires that the volunteer has the use of a truck or van capable of transporting youth goals and other equipment to the fields weekly.      

Thunder Soccer’s Spring 2012 

Registration for Thunder Soccer’s Spring season will be held on three dates: Sundays, February 26 and March 4 (1–5 pm) at North Park and Saturday, March 10 (10–2 pm) at the Community Center. For more information, contact Wayne Bernacki 847-671-0330 or Miguel Valdez at 847-233-9176.

This is a great opportunity for parents, new to the game of soccer or new to coaching to learn about the game while helping teach skills and conduct drills during weekly practices. Volunteers may contact our Coach Coordinator, Al Perez at (773) 895.9788 about coaching opportunities. Parents, don’t miss the chance to enjoy some fun time together with your child. Thunder Soccer Travel Teams compete against other suburban teams in the area and play in the Young Sportsman’s Soccer League (YSSL).   For information about the program and tryouts contact Andreas Cabral at (847) 401.1672. 

Franklin Park Speed Skating Club

The Franklin Park Speed Skating Club trains skaters to compete locally, regionally, and nationally in the exciting sport of Short Track Speed Skating. The club is open to skaters of all ability and experience levels below the age of 21. For more information, call Melissa Koenig at 708-383-0255.

Leyden Bears Football and Cheerleading

PLS Volleyball League - Polonijna Liga Siatkowki Chicago

Organizes an elite level of amateur competition of local teams. Inaugural season operates from January through April ending the season with an all-star game. Exciting competition can be experienced Sundays, 11:30 am - 4:00 pm at the Community Center.

The league is dedicated to promoting and creating an amateur and competitive sporting atmosphere for volleyball. Activities of the organization include organizing volleyball leagues and tournments. More information can be found on their website at www.plschicago.org.
