Join us for the newly redesigned 5K Foundation Fun Run/Walk and Kids Mini Mile!

poniedziałek, stycznia 23, 2012

New date, new time & a new race route that starts and finishes at North Park!

For all ages, our fifth year running of 5K through the streets of Franklin Park is being held on Saturday, September 15. The race starts and ends at North Park beginning at 9:00 a.m. Several changes were made this year from your feedback.

The Parks Foundation will be hosting the 5th annual 5K Foundation Fun Run/Walk. Join us for this healthy start to Fall. Residents of all ages and abilities are invited to join the Park District of Franklin Park for this special event. This race creates an opportunity for the community to achieve a fitness goal and enjoy fall through the neighborhood streets of Franklin Park.

All participants will receive a t-shirt and post-race refreshments. Also, prizes will be awarded to the top finishers and everyone receives a medal when they cross the finish line. An adult must accompany runners under twelve years old, and everyone can come out and cheer on their family, friends, and neighbors!

In addition to the 5K we will also host a Kids Mini Mile through North Park. For Kids 12 and under, come show off your skills along the path at North Park. All participants receive a t-shirt, medal and post race refreshments.

All proceeds generated by the 5K Foundation Fun Run/Walk support the Parks Foundation of Franklin Park and its goals The Parks Foundation is dedicated to identifying and responding to recreation opportunities through community leadership and support. If you are unable to participate in the race, consider dedicating a tree, brick, or bench in Franklin Park to commemorate a special occasion or remember a loved one.

Registration forms are due by Friday, September 14 at 5:00 pm. to receive the $20 rate. They are available at the all Park District facilities and online at www.fpparks.org. Rain Barrels are Available for Purchase!

środa, września 28, 2011

Rain barrels are used to recycle rainwater from your home's roof. They attach to your gutter's downspout, enabling you to catch rainwater and store it to water plants and gardens as needed. Rainwater is better for plants than municipal water because it's free of chlorine and other chemicals. Recycled rainwater can help you to have the best roses, fruit trees or tomatoes possible!
Rain Barrel Benefits:
  • Decrease your water bill
  • Promote gardening
  • Decrease use of treated water for outdoor uses
  • Decrease energy consumption normally required to treat and pump water and waste-water
  • Decrease storm water runoff, since water seeps into the groundwater when used to water gardens and lawns
  • Decrease flow to municipal waste-water treatment centers
In cooperation with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, the Park District has made rain barrels available for Franklin Park residents to purchase! Barrels stand about 3 feet high and are either black or blue, but can be painted. To reserve your barrel, fill out a Request Form and submit it with payment ($77 each) to the Community Center, 9560 Franklin Avenue. For more information, call 847-455-2852.
